Description

HCFML3 indicates whether the woman reported a public national hospital as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCFML3 is combined with HCFML4 (public regional hospital) in HCFPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the Mali samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFML3 are encouraged to review HCFPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

HCFML3 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.

Though HCFML3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFML3 or the Comparability tab of HCFPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Mali 2012.
